There’s nothing better than getting a great massage! But how do you know how long of a session you need? For those of you new to massage, this is a commonly asked question. Most people get anywhere from a 60 minute to 90 minute session. Shorter sessions are useful if you just need focus in one particular area, while longer sessions help you get into a deeper sense of relaxation while still allowing time to focus in a much needed area. Some modalities of massage require more time, some require less. For more information on the different types of therapies we offer, we’ve provided a list below so that you can learn more about each one.
A gentle, smooth therapy that enables you to get into a deep sense of relaxation. Wonderful if you are new to massage, hold lots of tension, or are sensitive to deep pressure.
A deeper take on Swedish Massage which promotes a restful experience but allows the therapist to reach the deeper stressed muscles. Great to incorporate into your session if you’ve been having pain in a particular area, or are experiencing lack of range of motion.
Muscular pain often results from muscle injury or repetitive strain. When stressed or injured, muscles often form trigger points, like contracted knots, that cause pain and tightness. Trigger points are painful when pressed on, cause a shortening of the muscle fibers, and can cause referred pain, which means that a trigger point in one muscle can create pain in another area. This type of therapy involves applying pressure to the trigger point as the trigger point “releases” and softens. Many clients experience relief from pain during the first treatment. For others, several treatments are needed before their pain starts to diminish. It is common for clients to experience some soreness for one to two days after treatment, but will usually clear up over multiple sessions.
A type of deep tissue, passive positional release which alleviates muscle and connective tissue tightness by using and holding particular positions for anywhere from 1-3 minutes at a time. It allows for localized areas of inflammation within tender muscles to dissipate, and clients often feel an immediate relief from pain once the release is complete. If you suffer from headaches, fibromyalgia, sciatica, tendinitis, chronic neck pain, lack of range of motion, and post-surgical conditions, this therapy may be right for you!
Massage is so helpful during this special time in your life. You are bringing a person into the world and you want to do anything to can to make sure your delivery goes smoothly. Studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. I have an Earthlite Pregnancy Prone Comfort Bolster & Headrest that will allow you to lay face down on the table comfortably and, above all, safely. When you book a prenatal session with me I will have it set up for you in the massage room when you arrive, show you how it works, and let you decide if you would like to try it or if you would still prefer to do a side-lying session. Let me know! Most pregnant women I have worked with are so comfortable and glad to be able to lay face down.
NRT is a quick hands-on deep tissue method that resets the nervous system into an optimal direction of health. You would participate with me during the session and I will tap on muscles and tendons or ask you to move or not move in a certain way to reset the nerves in each area. Feedback is very important. It’s not unusual for a client to get immediate relief in the area of focus. A full body NRT session can range from anywhere between 40-60 mins. It is done fully clothed, due to the active nature of this therapy. Useful for maximizing muscle length, improving mobility and posture and generally getting rid of muscular pain or tightness. It’s easier on me too since I won’t be using my thumbs or elbows like in other modalities.
Note: If you book an NRT session with me, please wear the appropriate attire. Compression shorts, or modest underwear and a T-shirt would work very well. Avoid thick clothes like jeans or sweaters.
Himalayan salt has 84 naturally occurring minerals and elements. When heated, it emits negative ions, delivering a myriad of health benefits such as protection against germs in the air. Getting a Himalayan salt stone massage is incredibly relaxing and will lightly exfoliate your skin as it helps improve circulation and help support a healthy respiratory system. In this technological world we live in now, phones and computers and other electronics interfere with the natural flow of energy within our bodies. These stones have a structure and frequency that helps to realign that flow of energy and restore balance in your nervous system. I highly recommend you try these if you’ve never had a hot stone massage.
Each session will be customized to the modalities you prefer.
