There are many people who have gone their whole life without receiving a massage. We may never have become a Massage Therapists if we hadn’t been lucky enough to have been introduced to massage at a relatively early age. Now that we know how good it is for your body to get regular massage, we know we could never go the rest of our lives without getting (or giving) one. There’s just so many benefits! If you want to see how massage therapy can help you live a happier, healthier life, look at this list and see if anything applies for you, and then check out our Modalities page to see if there’s a type of therapy that seems right for you!
If you are new to massage, we have put together a Before, During and After your session so that you can be as well-informed as possible.
If this is your first time at Mindful Touch, LMT, please allow 10-15 minutes before your session’s scheduled start time to find our office and fill out some paperwork. Depending on the length of your session you may want to use the restroom before we get started as well. We will always take a few minutes to do a briefing before each session where you can talk to your therapist about any discomfort or pain you have been feeling lately, or any questions you may have.
When you arrive, please come in through the main entrance and we will meet you at the door. Once you have filled out paperwork, your therapist will guide you to the massage room where you can brief him/her on any health issues you may have or physical discomfort you have been feeling. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. If it is your first time receiving a massage your therapist will walk you through how the table is set up and used before your session has begun.
Once the briefing is complete, your therapist will leave you in privacy to undress to your level of comfort, then you will slide onto the massage table underneath the sheet and blanket. Your therapist will knock before checking to see if you are settled and can make any necessary adjustments regarding the temperature or comfort of the massage table.
After knocking, your therapist will enter the room and close the door and will check in with you about the comfort of the massage table and temperature. Your session begins when the therapist’s hands make contact, or when your session time is booked (whichever happens first), so if you book a 60 minute session, that full hour is being used towards your massage as long as you are getting started on time. This is why it is so important to arrive a few minutes early to your appointment so we can use the full time of your appointment towards massage. Once your session starts, your therapist may ask you if you are comfortable or if pressure needs to be adjusted.
Open communication is very important! Feel free to let us know if you need more or less pressure, aromatherapy, temperature, music, or anything that would help you feel more comfortable. Everyone has different needs and some people like only a little pressure, while others like more. Your feedback will help us optimize your massage and customize it to your needs so that you can get the most out of your session. Depending on the type of therapy you choose, we will use a variety of strokes and techniques to help loosen muscular tension and ease discomfort.
As your session concludes, your therapist will leave the massage room and close the door. Feel free to allow yourself a few minutes to reorient yourself and get redressed. When you are ready, open the door and your therapist will come into the room and ask how you are feeling after your massage. At this time you will make any necessary payments or scheduling needs. Please allow 10-15 minutes from the end of your session to leaving in order to take care of any payments or scheduling that is needed.
